In Memory of Pia

Ten years ago I had the privilege of creating invites for Pia & Sean who were getting married on July 10, 2010 in LaJolla, CA.

We created a trifold pocket style invite, very simple but very classy. I don't usually get invited to the wedding of the customers that I do their invites but this was a special situation and I not only got invited but able to attend. It was one of the most beautiful weddings I had attended. But beyond all that made it special, was the love you felt that Pia and Sean felt for each other. Sean was the most proud groom I have ever witnessed and Pia just glowed. They had a fairy tail courtship followed by a fairy tail life but unlike the fairy tale where they live happily ever after, they were hit with devastating news, Pia had ALS.

ALS is a horrible disease with no cure. Sadly it took Pia last winter. Sean remembered Pia in a wonderful memorial service and I provided a memorial booklet for the service.

It only seemed appropriate that the cover show Pia in her passion for her work as a flight attendant for United Airlines.

Each page was jam packed with pictures of Pia throughout her life and incredible journey.

At the end Pia signs off and on the last page was a white feather and the significance of it.

Sean shared the journey of dealing with someone with ALS with me and it's a really sad story to hear how it impacts a family and all the elements that most of us have no clue. Maybe someday Sean can write his story so others can learn more about ALS and let's hope someday they find a cure.

Your remembered fondly Pia and will always hold a special place in my heart!

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Pia over 20 years ago. At one time we were going to be roommates. I remember her as a vibrant, driven woman with class and a lot of style. I looked up to her and was glad to have met her.
